When renters usually need pest control
- You had a cat or dog, and there are fleas. This is the classic end of lease case. A flea treatment after your pet has moved out, with a written report, is the simplest way to avoid a dispute at the final inspection.
- Cockroaches or ants appeared during your tenancy. If they came from food left out or rubbish kept inside, fixing it is usually your job.
- Your lease has a pest clause. Some leases mention flea treatment when pets are approved. Read what yours actually says, then weigh it against the rules above.
When it’s usually the rental provider’s job
- Pests that were there before you moved in. Your ingoing condition report is your evidence, so check it for notes about pests.
